The history of Valentino, from Rome to the world

Founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani in Rome, the house established itself within a few years as the absolute reference of Italian glamour. Trained under Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche in Paris, Valentino opened his first couture house on via Condotti in Rome. The consecration came quickly: Jackie Kennedy wore a Valentino dress for her marriage to Aristotle Onassis in 1968; Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn became devoted clients.
