Discover our carefully authenticated selection of vintage Gucci pieces: Jackie, Dionysus and Horsebit bags, GG belts, silk scarves, loafers and rare pieces from the Tom Ford and Alessandro Michele archives. Every piece is hand-evaluated by our team on avenue Louise and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Because Gucci is not just a brand — it is the heritage of Italian exuberance.

The history of Gucci, from Florence to the world

Founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci in Florence, the house began as a luxury leather goods atelier specialising in equestrian and travel accessories. In the 1950s–1960s, Gucci invented its most enduring codes: the green-red-green web stripe (inspired by a saddle girth), the horsebit in metal, the interlocking GG monogram, and the Jackie bag — carried so often by Jacqueline Kennedy that it took her name. The Gucci loafer with horsebit (1953) became one of the most copied shoes in fashion history. The house was transformed by Tom Ford (1994–2004), whose collections are now among the most collected on the vintage market, then by Alessandro Michele (2015–2022), whose maximalism defined a decade. Sabato De Sarno has led creative direction since 2023.

Iconic Gucci pieces

The Jackie bag

Renamed Jackie after Jacqueline Kennedy wore it on countless magazine covers. Recognisable by its half-moon shape, distinctive clasp and horsebit detail, in smooth leather, suede or GG canvas. Vintage versions from the 1960s–1980s and Tom Ford reissues of the 1990s are particularly prized.

The Dionysus bag

Launched by Alessandro Michele in 2015, with its gold-tone tiger head clasp and artisanal finishing. Highly sought-after in the first colorways (embroidered velvet, GG Supreme) of the 2015–2018 collections.

The GG and Horsebit belts

The GG belt (interlocking double G buckle) is Gucci's most accessible accessory. The Horsebit belt is the classic equestrian version. Both in natural leather from the 1970s–1990s are highly sought-after.

The Horsebit loafer

Created in 1953, one of the most influential shoes of the 20th century. Vintage versions in solid-metal horsebit from the 1960s–1980s are the most sought-after.

Tom Ford pieces (1994–2004)

The holy grail of vintage Gucci: velvet blazers, satin dresses, low-rise jeans, GG-print tops. These pieces embody 1990s glamour and are collected by fashion enthusiasts worldwide. A Tom Ford velvet blazer can trade at 10 times its original price.

Silk scarves and accessories

Gucci silk twill scarves printed with equestrian, floral or animal motifs are accessible and highly collectible. Vintage editions from the 1960s–1980s in original colorways are the most sought-after.

How to authenticate a Gucci piece

Authenticating a Gucci piece requires the examination of several combined criteria. Here are the 7 checkpoints we systematically verify in our atelier on avenue Louise.

1. The label and serial number

Gucci bags carry a sewn interior leather label reading "Gucci / Made in Italy" and a serial number on a separate tag. Precise typography, quality leather, clean characters.

2. The GG monogram

The interlocking double G has strict proportions: both Gs are the same size, perfectly symmetrical, with consistent spacing. On GG Supreme canvas, the pattern is continuous and never cut randomly at the seams.

3. The hardware

Clasps, horsebits and closures are in solid metal (gold or silver-plated brass), engraved "Gucci" on the hidden face. The authentic Horsebit consists of two half-circles joined by a crossbar — not a single moulded piece as on counterfeits.

4. The leather and materials

Gucci leather is consistent in quality: regular grain, natural scent, appropriate suppleness. GG Supreme canvas is rigid and resilient, with deep colours. Anything too light, too shiny or with washed-out colours is suspect.

5. The stitching

Stitching is regular and tight in a matched thread colour. No loose threads, no skipped stitches.

6. The web stripe

The web stripe (green-red-green) is woven with precision, with clean colours and consistent width. It is sewn flat without puckering or misalignment.

7. The lining and interior

The interior is lined in leather or suede depending on the model, with well-sewn interior pockets. The "Gucci / Made in Italy" label is sewn, never glued.

Our method: at Les Enfants d'Édouard, every piece undergoes a three-stage examination — visual inspection, technical verification (label, monogram, hardware, leather) and cross-referencing against our reference database. Every authenticated piece comes with our certificate of authenticity.

Gucci size guide

75 70–75 cm S / 36–38
80 75–80 cm M / 38–40

Gucci ready-to-wear: sizing

Gucci uses Italian sizing: 36 (XS), 38 (S), 40 (M), 42 (L), 44 (XL). Tom Ford pieces (1994–2004) run very slim — size up. Alessandro Michele pieces are often intentionally oversized for outerwear. Always verify actual measurements secondhand.

Why invest in a vintage Gucci piece

Gucci vintage has seen spectacular appreciation since 2015. Tom Ford pieces — long undervalued — have multiplied fivefold or tenfold in value in recent years. GG belts remain one of the most accessible entry points in the luxury secondhand market. Michele's first collections (AW2015 to SS2018) are beginning to be collected as works of fashion art.

For belts, avoid sharp folds. Store rolled or flat. Polish the buckle with a dry microfibre cloth.

For loafers, use wooden shoe trees. Clean leather with a soft cloth and appropriate conditioner. Polish the metal horsebit with a microfibre cloth.
