Founded in 1919 by Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastián, Spain, the house quickly established itself as one of the great powers of world haute couture. Acquired by Gucci Group (then Kering) in 2001, the house was reborn under Nicolas Ghesquière (1997–2012), who propelled it into the contemporary era with the cult City bag. Alexander Wang followed (2012–2015), before Demna Gvasalia's arrival in 2015, who transformed the codes radically: oversized silhouettes, streetwear references, logomania, post-modern irony. Balenciaga ready-to-wear: sizing

Balenciaga uses international sizing: XS (34/36), S (36/38), M (38/40), L (40/42), XL (42/44). The Demna era is characterised by deliberately oversized silhouettes — pieces are often intentionally cut large. A size 36 blazer may have the proportions of a 42: always check actual measurements rather than the label. Ghesquière-era pieces (1997–2012) follow more classic, fitted cuts.

Balenciaga sneakers: size conversion

Balenciaga sneakers (Triple S, Speed, Track) are generally recommended in half a size to a full size down for chunky models (Triple S, Track), as the thick sole adds volume. Care and maintenance of your Balenciaga pieces
